Demo started this weekend for our kitchen renovation. After so much planning the time has finally come. The cabinets were delivered, and demo is complete. The next steps are to close up the walls and install these bad boys!
I’m sure Kevin is getting tired of my jokes too… when the cabinets came out of course I said “you know I kind of liked those things, I’m second guessing replacing them.” Then when the knee wall was torn out I said “ are you sure we’re making the right decision?” Anyways, I love all the decisions we’ve made and there’s no going back not that I’d want to!!
Right now we have a blank room, the insulation is all exposed and it’s hard to visualize the finished product we’re working towards.
So here are the plans!
We’re using cabinets from Cabinets.com. These are the Colonial II cabinets in Alabaster white, they come preassembled.
The overall layout will be staying the same with some minor changes/ updates. All of the appliances will be reused, they’re all in good working condition! The appliances and sink will also be staying in their same locations.
- The knee wall at the peninsula was removed to give us a flush countertop. This will open up the space for better entertaining and visibility.
- Existing we had blind corner cabinets, these will now be lazy susans. Still a lot of storage but now everything will be accessible.
- The existing cabinets were 30” high and will now be 42” high, this will fill the 9’ wall better without going all the way to the ceiling. Not to mention add extra storage!
- Currently there is not a cabinet above the refrigerator. Why? I have no clue! But now we will have a cabinet surrounding the refrigerator.
- Adding a cabinet for trash and recycling. Pretty excited about having the trash in one of the cabinets and no longer need a separate trash can.
- Adding deep drawer cabinets in a couple places.
- The old black, dingy sink it out of here! I think this is probably my #1 thing I’ve been looking forward to. Every time I’ve cleaned it recently I would tell myself “Only 1 more month!”
We had to pack away everything from the kitchen, it felt like we were moving. But I can’t wait to unpack everything and reorganize! Especially with baby boy on the way this is a good time to get reorganized.
So far it’s been a lot of work and still a lot of work ahead of us but visualizing the end result helps to keep the momentum going!
