12 Days of a GREEN Christmas- Day 12: Sustainable Handmade Last Minute Gifts
There’s ONE week until Christmas!! This has been a strange and unusual year for us all but I’m grateful we get to end the year off with a holiday of giving and celebrating with family and friends. We all need this Christmas season!
Ordering and shipping are very questionable right now, but there is still time to make handmade and DIY gifts. Not all gifts have to be purchased. Sometimes a handmade gift can be even more special. <3
Handmade and DIY gifts can be a great sustainable option because it typically is made by things you already have like craft supplies which can reduce shipping and packaging waste. You’re able to gift them in recyclable or reusable wrapping. You could make several of them at a time which saves time and is cost-effective.
Last minute gifts:
- Handmade gifts- diy bees wax wraps,
- Plants—indoor plants
- Digital gifts- kindle books, music, digital subscription
- Spa certificates
- Check out your local sustainable store to see what they have in stock.
- Certificates to local Classes- Photography class/ painting class/ cooking class etc.
A last minute gift I whipped up is this Peppermint & Vanilla Sugar scrub, really anyone would enjoy this. We could all use a little extra relaxation after this year! Here’s the recipe:
DIY Peppermint & Vanilla Sugar Scrub
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup Coconut oil
- 15 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 6 drops Vanilla oleoresin
Instructions:
- Mix the sugar with the coconut oil. You’ll need to get your hands in there for this step!
- Add the essential oils
- Portion into jars. (I used two 4oz mason jars) I wouldn’t fill to the very top, it gets messy if you do.
- Attach a cute label and tie with a bow to transform it into your sweet last minute gift!
